So after a very interesting day yesterday dealing with the movers (I don't want to get into it, but essentially they showed up under prepared, and took way too long), Matt and I have made it to Memphis, which was beyond our initial goal :-).
We started our journey at around 9:30 EST last night, after picking my father up from JFK, and dropping him off on Long Island, and we finished about an hour ago, at 3:30 CST this afternoon. We've done about 1200 miles non-stop, only stopping for gas, and bathroom breaks. We hit a really good stride, alternating "sleeping" (naps basically) when we got tired, and driving when the other got tired.
We've gone through New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Tennessee so far. It was actually snowing through a good part of Virginia and Tennessee, but not enough to cause problems, just made for some picturesque scenes. Tomorrow we will be heading through Arkansas, Oklahoma, and probably northern Texas. For reference, here's the rough route.
So far the trip has been a lot of fun, and definitely an experience. Theres about 1500-1600 miles to go to Las Vegas, and we figure if we knock out 800-1000 miles tomorrow, we can drive a relaxed Thursday and Friday morning, and not be zombies when we arrive. Traffic's been pretty good, only with a little congestion around Nashville. We've committed to the I-40 drive across trying to avoid any weather possibly in Colorado.
I'm hoping we get to do a side trip to the Grand Canyon, or something along the way, but would rather rest if we're cutting it close. Keep checking back for updates!
Ian
